Criteria

This award seeks to identify the Scottish school that leads the way in the adoption of sustainable policies and practices. In placing its commitment to environmental responsibility high up on its list of operational priorities, the winning institution will consistently implement a variety of actions to measurably reduce its own impact on the environment, while instilling in pupils and staff an aspiration to pursue similar goals in day-to-day life.

Describe the practical measures and actions the school has implemented over the past 12 months to measurably reduce waste and usage of energy and/or water. (Maximum 300 words)*
An outline of your school’s procurement policy and its commitment to sourcing local, sustainably produced goods. Evidence may include a one-page PDF of your procurement policy. (Maximum 300 words)*
Outline how your school communicates information to staff and pupils about its commitment to maintaining environmentally friendly policies and practices. (Maximum 300 words)*
Explain whether your school is able to calculate its current carbon emissions. If so, please state by approximately how much these have fallen during the past 12-month period, or nearest equivalent. Please provide, where possible, comparisons with previous years. (Maximum 300 words)*
Provide details of any climate action campaigns, environmental education lessons, sustainability courses or ‘green’ qualifications the school has established. Evidence including press reports, teacher or pupil case studies, outside recognition and/or award nominations may be submitted to support the nomination. (Maximum 300 words)*
