ENTER THE SCOTTISH SCHOOL FOOD AWARDS

Aimed at recognising catering excellence, sustainable strategies and practices, healthy-living initiatives and innovative foodservice in schools across the country, the Scottish School Food Awards are unique to Scotland’s education sector.

There are 10 award categories across the spectrum of foodservice, from nutrition, well-being and innovation, to technology, sustainability, community interaction and employee achievement. Nominations are simple, straightforward and free of charge, and will be judged by an independent panel of experts from the education, technology and foodservice sector.

Award synopsis
The winner of this award will be a school in Scotland that is leading the way in nurturing and encouraging future hospitality talent. Alongside the development of people skills and business acumen, the winning institution will strive to identify and instil in its pupils the dual hallmarks of empathy and enthusiasm, both of which are essential attributes for a career in the hospitality sector.

Award synopsis
This award seeks to acknowledge the leading Scottish school that prioritises the well-being of pupils and staff, and successfully fuses the link between a positive educational environment and first-class foodservice. In encouraging individuals to lead healthier lives, the winning establishment will offer a variety of measures and initiatives to help recognise, address and counter the effects of potential mental health issues among the entire school community.

Award synopsis
Open to all schools in Scotland, this award acknowledges and celebrates the team behind a dedicated initiative, project, fundraising challenge or long-term campaign involving pupils, staff, parents and/or stakeholders for the benefit of the wider community. The initiative, if a one-off, should be no more than three years old at the time of nomination. Long-term arrangements or partnerships are permitted but the nomination should be based on efforts within the last three years.

Award synopsis
The winner of this award will be a team or individual behind a ground-breaking idea, promotion, invention or concept that encourages pupils to embrace a healthier lifestyle, and rewards them for doing so. Entrants may include teachers, catering teams, health-and-well-being coordinators, external consultancies and others involved in the running of the school. The innovation itself should be no more than two years old at the time of award submission.

Award synopsis
This awards seeks to identify the country’s most talented budding chef, aged 12-18, who is currently enrolled as a pupil within a school in Scotland. The winner will be an individual who takes an enthusiastic interest in food and cooking and will be accustomed to developing their own recipes and menus. Regarded as a future star of Scottish hospitality, they will have experienced previous success in external and/or in-school culinary competitions.

The winner of this award will be an outstanding personality who has, over the course of their career, demonstrated a unique and exceptional commitment to improving catering within the education sector in Scotland.

Award synopsis
This award seeks to identify the Scottish school that leads the way in the adoption of sustainable policies and practices. In placing its commitment to environmental responsibility high up on its list of operational priorities, the winning institution will consistently implement a variety of actions to measurably reduce its own impact on the environment, while instilling in pupils and staff an aspiration to pursue similar goals in day-to-day life.

Award synopsis
This category is open to all catering brigades working within a school environment in Scotland. The award aims to recognise the team of individuals who is leading the way in using food, innovation and imagination to transform children’s eating habits and their attitude to health and nutrition.

Award synopsis
Nominations are invited from chefs employed in-house and by third party contract caterers. The winning candidate will be responsible for most innovative menu development and the delivery of the highest quality food and/or hospitality services within a school environment in Scotland.

Award synopsis
Open to all employees working in Scottish school foodservice, this award aims to highlight the catering team member whose efforts and contributions have consistently exceeded their remit over the past 12 months. Any role, position or length of service may be considered for this award.
